Hi -- I was new to this group and posted several entries to Meridian Steve's build thread thinking that was the main thread and I was just the second poster. Wrong. So, I'm fixing it. Please forgive the double posting. I'll delete the entries to Meridian Steve's post as soon as I move them over into my own. And a special apology to Meridian Steve for unwittingly hijaaking his post.

This is going to take several posts . . .

Warning: Long post!

Here's the deal. My Passport is Honda's Pearl White finish. The body side moldings come in black and no other color. Some people are going to like the black body side moldings. In fact, I think they look just fine on some of the other Passport colors. But, not white. They just didn't work *for me*.

My local body shop wanted $800 to paint a set. I didn't go shopping. I just decided to order a set and paint them Honda Pearl White myself. Here's what happened:

I first learned that, if you want to spray paint plastic (they are ABS), you use a product called SEM 39863 Plastic Adhesion Promoter (aerosol can) to prep the plastic to take paint. So, Step 1 would be a coat of SEM.

Then, I ordered the full kit from TouchUp Direct. This includes primer, base coat, "mid-coat" (tint and pearl) and clear coat. This meant I would be spraying five layers of coating altogether. I figured I was gambling a few hundred bucks (moldings, SEM, paint kit). But, I can be impulsive at times. I did it.

In order to avoid runs, I laid the moldings flat to spray. I followed the directions **strictly** including timing of coats, and I'm glad I did. Overall, I was rather amazed at the quality of these products including the spray cans themselves. Nice stuff all around.

After three days of curing, I took them to the dealer (who owed me installation). The folks at the dealership told me there was quite a conversation in the body shop about how well they came out. I told them that I had to give the credit to the product manufacturers since the paint and cans were so "cooperative". Really. Every coat went on easily.

Here's what I don't know: (1) what will happen if someone bangs a door into one of them -- nothing? a dent? paint chips off? and (2) how well will the paint will hold up over time. But it's been a few months now and so far so good. If there's a problem, I'll be back to let you know.

(The picture below is before the 1.5" lift or 1" wheel spacers which I will also post.)

I"ve posted about this elsewhere but those posts can't be moved here. The group admin has asked me to repost. This is my second shot at getting it in the "right" place.

Check out the pictures. Back in December, I installed the JSport 1.5" lift kit. So much better! Now it sits right. It's not a drastic lift and it's HRC approved. I'm happy. Before and after pictures attached. (I sent these shots to JSport who put them on their site. So, don't be concerned if you see these shots there. This is really my truck.) Left hand shot is "Before" and right hand shot is "After".

Addition of wheel spacers is up next . . .

Following up putting the JSport 1.5" lift in my Passport by installing a set of HRG's 1" wheel spacers to widen the stance. This offsets the theoretical (since I can't "feel" it) change in stability ratio back down to right about where it was before the lift.

I consulted a Honda expert and 1" is well within the bounds of what the suspension can easily handle. I'm running the stock wheels and tires. It's within a credit card's distance of rubbing when the wheels are locked left or right.

This JSport 1.5 lift combined with the 1" hub centric spacers is really nice to drive and I like the look as well.

Pictures with the headlights off are after the lift and before the spacers. Pictures with the headlights ON are after the spacers. The picture from the rear is also with the spacers installed.

The first picture is NOT my picture because this Passport owner's picture was so much better than mine. It's JSport's rear differential skid plate. It's made of aircraft aluminum.

Now, look at the second picture (I took that one) which is what the 2026 Passport's rear differential looks like and you'll see that Honda certainly should have supplied protection for such an intricate assembly. Look closely and you can even see exposed wiring.

(Not trolling -- I **LOVE** my Passport).

It's breeze to install and costs less than the competition.

I also installed their aircraft aluminum front skid plate. It won't rust, it's 15 lbs lighter and every bit as strong.

Awesome build Steve, love to see it. Thank you!

Did you do all the installs yourself? I’ve turned a lot of wrenches but am still feeling anxious about suspension. Not sure why. I’ve installed shocks and sway bars on other vehicles.

Hello deck! I did not. I have attached the installation instructions in PDF format. Have a look and see what you think. I knew I would be in over my head. The skid plates and 1" spacers are really quick and easy to install. It just wasn't worth it to do it myself. My mechanic blasted through those installations while I waited. Anyone with a wrench can install the rear bumper and (big deal) I did that. Hope this helps.

Still playing but maybe I'm done. If you note the bottom of the doors you'll see pin striping. It wasn't hard to do at all. I used 3m material for confidence. but the white stripe at the bottom wasn't available from 3m and I bought that on Amazon. Hopefully it all stays put, but fine so far. I let it cure for over a week and it's been through a car wash without a problem.

Do you think the tires would rub if someone did the HRG spacers without the 1.5" lift? Thinking about spacers but not the lift and just curious.

Sorry for the lag in response. Worse than the lag, I have to admit I don't know the answer to your question. I've seen reports of lift + slightly taller tire working. I've seen reports of rubbing at full lock. I honestly haven't kept adequate track of who did what.

OK. One last (?) thing. (1) JSport 1.5" lift. (2) HRG 1" spacers to compensate for lifted center of gravity. And now, (3) swapped in the heavy duty RTL rear sway bar to compensate for body roll from lift. I figure I'll corner 100,000s of times for every time I need articulation. Now, in all fairness, it's very very hard to say if there really was *any* instability caused by installing the lift. There's just no way to make a meaningful comparison. But, I think the three steps together complement each other.

Drives great!

I believe the Pilot side moldings are the same part and they come in other colors including white.

I've heard this. I haven't verified it because, unfortunately, I heard it too late. If anyone can actually verify that they are the same parts except painted. I will pass the information along whenever he opportunity arises. But, one does wonder, if they are, why Honda doesn't offer them for the 2026 Passport.

Maybe I'll never be finished . . .
So, two lighting changes: (1) Jsport Fog Light Kit with Baja Designs S2 lights. I chose SAE to be able to legally keep them on all the time. This was an incremental improvement to factory. By now, we all know what this kind of upgrade looks like.

So, in hopes of better vision around corners and/or spotting deer on the side of the road at night, (2) I bought a pair of Jsport Mirror Pocket Light Brackets and added a pair of 3" SAE LED Fog Light Cubes from Amazon to mount on them. These sit high right against the side view mirrors -- very unobtrusive. They do a decent job of adding width to the headlight beams and should give me an edge of reaction time in case of a potential deer strike.

In order to control these extra lights, I installed a remote controlled relay under the hood which I can switch off and on from behind the driver's seat. I'm hoping to eventually also come up with a way of wiring them in where they go off on their own when I shut the Passport down.

So far, not one person has flashed me for overly bright lights, but then these are very conservative additions. I can stand right in front of the Passport with all the lights on (not high beams) and look right into them with no trouble. Viewed from the front, the "deer lights" look to be "comparable" brightness to the headlights.
