Honda Care?

Going to the dealer tomorrow pick up a new 2026 Trailsport Elite in Sonic Gray Pearl. Already agreed on sales price ($50,250 purchase price/$54,400 MSRP) but haven't gone in the "room" with the Finance dept.

Anyone have any opinions on Honda Care? I live in New England (MA/VT) and drive about 15K/year and I tend to keep a car 10+ years and 150 - 200K miles.

A bit of background... I'm long-time Toyota driver (FJ Cruiser -> 4Runner). I looked at the new 6th gen 4Runners but wasn't overly impressed, especially in the value.

FWIW, I got the Toyota extended warranty on new purchases of both my 2007 FJ and 2015 4Runnner. The FJ ran into some expensive issues (head gasket/water pump/timing chain) at around 100K and the warranty paid for itself and more. The 4Runner was bulletproof mechanically and I never used the warranty (If only it covered rust...).

Not sure if you purchased one at the dealership. They are more expensive than a few places I know in the US. I price matched with my dealership, but I bought my sons Honda Care from Honda Saccucci. 120,000 mile warranty for 1300 and I added lost key fob replacement for 300.

I bought the platinum package. It covers scratches, rim repair, and some of the first 15-30k maintenance. At 5k miles, it's required to do a rear dif service. I think since this is a new style transmission and we don't fully know the reliability, I would definitely get the extended warranty.

I went into the Finance office with an open mind on Honda Care. Was very surprised when the Finance Guy tried to sell me a 3rd party warranty instead of Honda Care. When I asked about Honda Care, he said he could sell me it, but gave me a story about how this warranty was better even though it was 7 yr 100K and initial price quoted was almost $4K. I told them I wasn't interested at that price and they eventually came down as low as $2,300. After I refused again, they moved on and I didn't end up getting an extended warranty.

I'm really surprised Honda lets their dealers get away with prioritizing a 3rd party warranty over Honda Care.

I'm ultimately happy with the price I got and went home with a new Passport Trailsport Elite in Sonic Gray Pearl!

Will be looking into a Honda Care plan from either Sacucci or Hyannis.

My dealer didn't even offer 3rd party. So there must be some shady kick-backs for selling 3rd party.
