Does anybody know what the plastic box is in the engine compartment that's on top of the battery? It blocks the negative post. I removed it today just to see if I could figure out what its function is but it has me stumped. It ties into the air intake. Not sure if it is to quiet down the intake or maybe some sort of emission gadget.

I just asked this. Per a response on Facebook group:
It’s the resonator that serves two purposes, the first and most important is that of regulating the pressure waves that result from multiple valves closing at different times. This causes waves of back pressure that could limit the flow of fresh intake air, so this is supposed to regulate those waves to try and keep the back pressure to a minimum

Hence removing it could negatively impact engine performance

The second thing it does is a result of the first. It reduces induction noise die to the regulating of the pressure waves
