At just under 450 miles, while I was in Las Vegas, my wife texted me and said she got an error message on the Passport. It had idled for about 5 minutes and the temp gauge was spiked. She called the dealership and got it towed in to them. Based on what she found on Google, it was a fuse issue. They brushed her off and said it’s possible. They then claimed it was a harness issue and had to wait on the parts. After getting the parts and not fixing it, they called Honda. It was the fuse installation. So very frustrating. And, honestly, super scary on a brand new, not exactly inexpensive vehicle.

That would unnerve me too... and I'd be worried about unknown damage depending on what the temperature got too. Sorry to hear about your issue! :(

That is concerning. Hopefully just a one in a million type thing. Any idea which fuse caused the issue?

That would definitely be useful to know, so people can fix it themselves in the future.

So, my wife did a search on Google when it happened and got this. We told the dealership about it and, while they initially blew it off, it turned out to be correct. At first they said it was likely a Harness for the engine fan.

That's great info, thank you very much!

I just went out to the garage and checked my fuses... There are two 40 amp fuses labeled Rad fan 1 and Rad fan 2. They are located in the fuse box in the engine compartment and labeled fuse #3 and #6 on the inside of the fuse box cover. Fuse #3 is a fuse I've never seen before, about 3 inches long and looks like it contains multiple fuses. Anyway just wanted to make it easier for people that want to double check to ensure the fuses are installed.

I'd be concerned if it went over the normal (3 or 4 bars)
A new vehicle shouldn't have any overheating issues.

It's probably fine and any issues covered under warranty. Fortunately if there is any damage from overheating it will pop up well before the warranty period expires and you'll have this documented.

True, good point. It is documented.

Also, to put your mind at ease, idling it for a few minutes isn't good, but to damage it you usually have to drive it for a while with it hot, and to the point where it's shooting out steam. Sounds like none of those things happened. Definitely not in the ideal temperature range but, not in the failure range.

Also, I get your frustrations, sucks to have this happen so early on.
